A review of the history of the Waqf institution in Iran shows that participation in this
pious and common benefit tradition, it is not only reserved for men and since long
ago, women have also been among the founders who have tried to keep alive and
prosper this tradition by spending their property. The present research aims to take
advantage of the historical contextual approach and the use of relevant documents
to deal with the benevolent actions of Najm Al-Saltaneh in the establishment of Najmiyeh
Hospital in Tehran. Najm al-Saltaneh founded this hospital 6 years before her
death, in May 1926. According to the Waqf-nameh in October 1928, Najmiyeh hospital
was dedicated to all Iranian patients and real estate inside and outside of Tehran
was considered to cover its expenses and patients. Mohammad Mosadegh, son of
Waqif, donated his share to this hospital according to a Waqf-nameh. The management
of the hospital until the death of Najm al-Saltaneh in December 1932 was under
her responsibility, and from that date it was under the responsibility of Mohammad
Mosadegh. Even now, after about a hundred years have passed since this Waqf, Najmiyeh
Hospital is running as a waqf and its supervision is under the responsibility of
Mahmoud Mosadegh, one of the descendants of Mohammad Mosadegh.
