High voltage power supplies are used in many equipment. To produce high voltage, it is not possible to use a transformer alone due to the increase in its volume, and on the other hand, its parasitic parameters such as leakage inductor and dispersion capacitor cause many problems. On the other hand, conventional step-up converters also have problems to produce high voltages, which can be mentioned as diode conduction losses, diode reverse recovery problem, very large duty cycle problem and high current stress for the diode and high voltage stress for the switch. Switching losses are reduced by using soft switching techniques and the switching frequency can be increased to reduce the size of the transformer. In this paper a flyback-forward step-up converter with a new auxiliary circuit is presented. An auxiliary circuit with a low number of elements provides zero voltage switching conditions at turn on and off the switches, and on the other hand, the energy of the transformer leakage inductor is also properly absorbed by the auxiliary circuit and prevents voltage spike across the switches. does Also, soft switching conditions have been provided for a wide range of load changes. Due to the soft switching of the switches, there are no capacitive tune-on losses and the diodes also do not have reverse recovery problem. The proposed converter has been analyzed and simulated, and a 120 W laboratory prototype has been implemented to demonstrate its correct performance.
