The subject of the research revolves around explaining the meaning of
rings, indicating its types and its shar'ia ruling, a contemporary comparative
jurisprudence study follows. objectives are summarized in explaining the meaning of
ring, indicating the types of rings that the fuqaha' discuss wearing, and their
jurisprudence rulings, highlighting the ruling on wearing more than one ring,
identifying how to wear a ring, and ruling on wearing a ring with or without a
gemstone, discussing the ruling on wearing silver ornaments aside from rings, and
clarifying the shar'ia ruling on wearing an engagement ring. The research follows an
extrapolating approach. The most important outcomes of which is that the basic
principle of wearing a silver ring is that it is permissible, and that an iron ring is
makrooh (not advisable) for both men and women, and that it is permissible to wear a
pearl ring for women and for men, and that the weight of silver ring is mithqal or less
, unless it violates the customary, and that it is permissible to make the gemstone of
the ring facing inward or outward. And that it is makrooh (not advisable) to wear the
ring in other than the pinkie finger, however if doing so is meant to imitating then the
ruling is haraam. The correct view is that it is permissible for a man to wear a silver
ring both in his right hand pinkie as well as the pinkie of his left hand, both of which
are mentioned in the Sunnah. Engraving on ring is permissible on the sahih of muslim
scholars views. When performing wudoo' (ablution) or ghusl, to move the ring if it is tight, and to
remove it for tayammum, and it is haraam to wear the engagement ring (dublah),
because it is imitation to the kuffaar and because it contains a baseless belief. Finally,
I recommend adhering to the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him), not to depart from it, and to study the jurisprudence regarding
the ruling on wearing bracelets and other ornaments other than rings.
