Khushwant Singh, the founder of “Partition Literature”, has made linguistic innovations in Train to Pakistan (1956), in order to show the relationship between discourse, ideology and society. This study seeks to give answer to the following questions: Which of the native dielects has more frequency in the novel? Are the the novel’s discourses within the framework of Van Dijk’s model? What are the techniques used by the Persian translator to transfer the meaning of the source text (ST) into the target text (TT)? The research methodology is descriptive-analytic with its main focus on Van Dijk’s socio-cognitive approach to critical discourse analysis. The findings show that Khushwant Singh has used strategies in meaning and rhetorical levels which comply with Van Dijk’s theoretical framework and ideological square (1998) in micro and macro levels. Analysis of data using SPSS indicates a meaningful difference in the frequencies of discourse strategies used in these two levels. Chi-square results reveal that Khushwant Sing has adopted powerful techniques as “Number Game”, “Innovative Similes”and “Semantic Indianization” for localizing English language. The quality assessment of novel’s translation from mediating English language revealed high frequenct of mismatches of the denotative meanings of the source text among the overt errors. While ‘breach of the target language system’ was less frequent. Translator has used “cultural filter” to compensate for SL cultural phenomena in TL.
