The bronchial constriction resulting from exercise which can cause respiratory tract congestion is considered as a form of asthma and can be stimulated by exercise and air pollution. Therefore، the aim of the present study was to survey changes in the respiratory tract congestion caused by maximal exercise protocol in the professional and amateur Greco-Roman wrestlers in different times after the practice. For this purpose، 20 professional wrestlers (members of national and club teams) and 17 amateur wrestlers (members of Shahid Chamran University team) were selected by purposive and available sampling method. Strand treadmill test was used as a test of maximal activity in this study. Spirometry test was performed before the exercise and again in 1، 5، 15، 30 minutes after stopping the exercise. The results showed that with regard to percentage of changes of bronchospasm، there was a significant difference in FEV1 (forced expiratory volume in one
second) in 15 minutes (P: 0.013 & T: -2.63)، 30 minutes (P: 0.004 & T: -3.11) and in FEF25-75 (forced expiratory volume 25-75%) in 1 minute (P: 0.001 & T: -4.15)، 15 minutes (P: 0.002 & T:-3.31)، 30 minutes (P: 0.004 & T: -3.09) between amateur and professional groups. As the volume and intensity of exercise was higher in the professional Greco-Roman wrestlers in comparison with amateur wrestlers، it can be a reason for more bronchospasm in professional wrestlers compared with the amateur ones.
