در این مقاله تجدیدنظرگرایی از نگاه مانوئل وارگاس بررسی شده است که نظریه‌ایست دربارۀ ارادۀ آزاد به عنوان شرط مسئولیت اخلاقی. این نظریه معتقد به دو تعبیر تشخیصی و تجویزی دربارۀ فهم متعارف از ارادۀ آزاد و مسئولیت اخلاقی است. تعبیر تشخیصی دربارۀ این است که در فهم متعارف ما، ارادۀ آزاد و مسئولیت اخلاقی با موجبیت علّی ناسازگار و انسان دارای ارادۀ آزاد است. تعبیر تجویزی دربارۀ این که فهم ما از این امور چگونه باید باشد. تعبیر تجویزی نمی‌تواند آزادانگاری باشد، زیرا باید عدم موجبیت را به طوری خاص در فرایند ذهنی تصمیم‌گیری فرض بگیرد و این لازمه از شواهد موجود فراتر است. تعبیر تجویزی حذف‌گرایی نیست، زیرا می‌توان با تجدیدنظر در فهم متعارف خود از این امور، آن را به شکلی اصلاح کرد که با دشواری روبرو نباشد. تعبیر تجویزی نوعی سازگارگرایی است، ارادۀ آزاد از این نظر توانایی تشخیص ملاحظات اخلاقی و هدایت رفتار خود در پرتو این ملاحظات است. این توانایی با موجبیت‌گرایی علّی سازگار است. این نظریه مبتنی برای کاربرد و توجیه نظام مسئولیت است. درپایان استفادۀ وارگاس از استدلال پیامد، استناد به شواهد تجربی و تکیه برهنجارهایی با مبنای آزادانگار برای تبیین تعبیر تشخیصی و تجویزی او مورد نقد قرار گرفته است.
This article examines Manuel Vargas’s revisionism, which
is a theory of free will as a condition of moral responsibility. In this
theory, both diagnos tic and prescriptive account of free will and
moral responsibility in commonsense are explained. The diagnos tic
account describes commonsense beliefs about free will and moral
responsibility and prescriptive account aims to tell us how we ought
to think about free will and moral responsibility. Commonsense intuitions
about free will are Incompatibilis t and especially Libertarianis
t. But prescriptive account can’t be Libertarianism, since it has to
assume indeterminism specifically in the subjective decision-making
process, and this goes beyond the available evidences. It also
can’t be Eliminativism, because we can revise common sense about
these things, in a way that to be consis tent. The prescriptive account
is a kind of Compatibilism, free will, in this regard, is the ability to
recognize moral considerations and guide their behavior in the light
of these considerations. At the end, Vargas’s use of Consequence
Argument, citing empirical evidence, the use of a Compatibilis t concept
of can and relying on Libertarianis t norms for interpretation his
Prescriptive account has been criticized.

در این مقاله ، مفهومی از ارادة آزاد بررسی شده است که با مسئولیت اخلاقی مرتبط است و با توجه به آن می توان در ارزیابی اخلاقی ، افراد را برای کنش های خود سرزنش یا ستایش کرد.
٢-ادعای تجدیدنظرگرایی از نظر بسیاری از آزادانگاران معاصر شرط داشتن ارادة آزاد و مسئولیت اخلاقی این است که بخش مهمی از تصمیم های فرد که قابلیت ارزیابی اخلاقی دارند، در شرایط متعارف ، موجبیت یافته نباشد و او را بتوان منشأ علی ١ کنش های خود دانست .
منشأ بودن می تواند دارای شدت و ضعف باشد، اما نمی توان انکار کرد که فهم متعارف از ارادة آزاد و مسئولیت اخلاقی این بخش اصلی را در خود دارد.
