The story of Sheikh Sana'an is one of the stories which many scholars have commented on and cited various sources for. Something that has not been considered in this studies is the interpretive narrative of Harut and Marut. This narrative contains elements that are not found in any of the other possible and known sources of Sheikh Sana'an, and because of its many structural, thematic as well as historical similarities, it precedes the other sources of Sheikh Sana'an. This study claims that by relying on numerous documents and indications in these two stories, this narrative can be considered as one of the main and inspiring Attar’s original texts in the story of Sheikh San’aan with the dominance of hypertextuality relationship between them. Attar's approach to introduction of the story and the similarities between the events and the main characters of these two stories, such as Harut and Marut, Sheikh San’aan, Zohra and Christian girl, as well as the themes such as descency, pride, divine test of love, sin and its effects, intercession and mentioning specific cases that are not mentioned in any of the sources of Sheikh Sana'an leave no doubt that Attar was also interested in paying attention to this narrative.
