Today, there is a belief that international peace and security is, in its true sense, shaped by the existence of democracy and respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms.
To this end, the United Nations and its specialized agencies are responsible for maintaining international peace and security and provide the necessary framework for cooperation between governments in a variety of fields.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), meanwhile, contributes to the maintenance of peace and security through the expansion of cooperation between governments in educational, scientific and cultural areas and the emphasis on respect for democracy and human rights.
