خلاصة:
Phonemic change, consonantal or vocalic, in morphological environment
requires some phonological and morphological processes due to the
combination of the base morpheme, the underlying level, and the affixal
morphemes so as to make the morphophonemic form. The morphophonemic
form and the lexical phonological rules that act on it cyclically such as Trisyllabic
laxing Rule are stored in the speaker’s lexicon. Applying rules that
result in re-syllabification, stress shifting and the categorical change of the
underlying level converts the morphophonemic form into the surface level
that is actually heard. Doing so, the learners are able to understand
segmental change in derivative environment or phoneme boundary as well
as supra-segmental rules that help them to pronounce isolated words
correctly. Segmental change at word boundary is done by inserting the
word in a context which is run by post lexical phonological rules or
syntactic rules such as the three forms of English plural suffixes. It helps
learners to produce words in a connected speech form.
