ابوطالب اخیر (متوفای۵۲۰) از نوادگان سیدموید بالله و شخصیت سیاسی تاثیرگذار زیدیه بود که در سال ۵۰۲ در گیلان قیام خود را آغاز کرد. او درصدد بود تا دعوت و امامت خویش را بر عمان و یمن نیز گسترش دهد. پرسش اصلی مقاله این است که قدرت‌گیری ابوطالب اخیر معلول چه تحولات سیاسی و نظامی در منطقه گیلان و دیلم بوده‌است؟ و مناسبات و مکاتبات او با زیدیان و فعالیت فرامنطقه‌ای وی، تا چه حد در تثبیت امامتش تاثیرگذار بوده‌است؟ به نظر می‌رسد ابوطالب اخیر که عالمی اندیشمند و مجاهدی پرکار بود، با بررسی وضعیت سیاسی گیلان، عمان و یمن تا حدودی توانست اوضاع نابسامان این مناطق را مهار کند. با این همه به علل گوناگون قیامش به سرانجام نرسید. این پژوهش با بررسی فعالیت‌های سیاسی و نظامی ابوطالب اخیر در مناطق مختلف، انگیزه و هدف ابوطالب از قیام را تحلیل و ارزیابی کرده است. در این مقاله با استناد به داده‌ها و منابع تاریخی و با توصیف و تحلیل داده‌های تاریخی، مشکلات و چالش‌های پیش‌روی ابوطالب اخیر مورد بررسی قرار گرفت تا نقش وی در زمینه‌سازی آغاز دوره دوم حکومت زیدیه یمن مشخص شود. یافته‌های پژوهش نشان می‌دهد که زیدیه در گیلان و دیلم انسجام چندانی نداشتند. همچنین مشخص شد که ابوطالب از راه دور، توان مهار اوضاع آشفته یمن را نداشت زیرا یمن با تعصبات قبیلگی و حسادت‌های اشراف زیدی مواجه شده بود.
The Abu Talib Akhir (died 520) was a descendant of Sayyid Mu'ayyad Billah and an influential political figure of Zaydiyya, who started his uprising in Gilan in 502. He wanted to extend his Invitation and Imamate to ʻUman and Yemen. The main question of the article is what political and military developments in Gilan and Deylam region have been caused by Abu Talib's rise to power. And his relationships and correspondence with the Zaydis and his extra-regional activities, to what extent were they influential in establishing his Imamate? It seems that the Abu Talib Akhir, who was a scholar and a prolific mujahid, was able to control the chaotic situation of these regions to some extent by examining the political situation in Gilan, ʻUman and Yemen. However, due to various reasons, his uprising did not come to an end. By examining the political and military activities of Abu Talib in different regions, this research has analyzed and evaluated Abu Talib's motivation and goal of the uprising. In this article, by referring to historical data and sources and by describing and analyzing historical data, the problems and challenges faced by Abu Talib were examined in order to show his role in establishing the context for the beginning of the second period of the Yemen Zaydiyya. The findings of the research show that Zaydiyya in Gilan and Deylam did not have much cohesion. It was also found that Abu Talib was not able to control the turbulent situation of Yemen from afar because Yemen was faced with tribal prejudices and jealousies of the Zaydi nobles.
