Is moral education a rational thing devoid of indoctrination, or is it necessarily accompanied by moral indoctrination? There are two completely different perspectives in answering this question and the relationship between moral education and indoctrination. The opposite view of indoctrination denies any relationship between genuine moral education and indoctrination. In this view, indoctrination is based on four criteria of intention, method, content, and outcome. Proponents of indoctrination believe that the role of indoctrination is vital and inevitable for moral education. In this approach, since it is impossible to acknowledge the ultimate moral standard, the effort in moral education is certainly indoctrinated. The common theme of the above two views is ignoring the age range of the learner in moral education. The present study claims that contrary to the opposing view of indoctrination, moral education without indoctrination is impossible. On the other hand, by confining the positive and necessary function of indoctrination to the early stages of child development, it will also distance itself from the perspective of indoctrination moral education. This research is of qualitative nature and seeks to clarify the concept of indoctrination in relation to moral education through the method of conceptual analysis. The result of the research is that the main criterion to consider an action as indoctrination is the audience and its conditions. Therefore, since the child in the early stages of development lacks the necessary critical and argumentative powers to understand, accept, and adhere to a moral standard, moral education is mixed with indoctrination in this period. This type of indoctrination affects the child's desires, habits, and expectations, which will lead to the formation of moral commitment. Therefore, instilling moral principles in childhood will not violate the critical thinking and assessment of moral judgments in the period of intellectual development and maturity.
