Book Review Hyderabad: After the Fall by Omar Khalidi; Wichita, Kansas: Hyderabad Historical Society, 1988 This is a collection of 13 essays by a group of experts on the society and politics of Deccani Muslims after Indian independence in 1947.
Finally, Omar Khalidi has combed through various books and journals to produce an excellent bibliographic essay on post-1948 Muslim society in Hyderabad, which will be indispensable to anyone working on a major center of Indian Muslims.
The book under review fortunately does have a connecting theme: the efforts of various ethnicVArnericans to influence foreign policy on behalf of countries or cornrnunities.
The major conclusion of the book seems to be that cohesive ethnic groups canvassing on behalf of single countries (Jews for Israel) are likely to be most successful, whereas Arab Americans or Blacks trying to influence US.
foreign policy on a whole block of countries in the Middle East or Africa are less likely to be successful.
