Abstract:
Environmental issues are mainly arisen from human behavior so it is of much importance to consider individual attitude, intention and awareness to study it. The purpose of this research is to investigate the ecological identity in view of Iranian students using critical discouse analysis. This qualitative research was carried out using Fairclough Critical Discourse Analysis (1941) and Bootkin and Keller’s Theory (2011) as theoretical frameworks, and Charmaz Contructivist Grounded Theory (2008). The participants were 20 BA, MA and Phd EFL language learners from Hakim Sabzevari University. The data were collected by the semi-structure interviews and the voices were recorded. Then the data were coded based on the three levels of grounded methodlogy. The codification process resulted in 187 codes open codes, 18 sub-codes, 6 important themes, and final selective code of ecological identity. Based on the extracted constructs of the importance of environment, walking in nature, memories from nature, responsible behavior, environmental literacy and environment concerns, a model was proposed which corresponded with the principles of Bootkin and Keller theory.
