چکیده:
The tragic event of Karbala/ Ashura has since left its profound impact on the Muslim/ Shiite community. The transformation process that has changed this event into a fullfledged school of thought was not something gradual, rather it was too fast to admit any gradation. This transformation took place on the very day of Ashura, right in the cradle of the same tragic event, all in effect of the personality of Imsm alHusayn, not due to the lectures of Muslim preachers. Hence, analyses done on Ashura cannot be making and introducing a new school of thought, rather all these efforts are just activities to analyse and understand the school in question. This paper proves it based on athoritative sources and a chain of the events that took place. The martyrdom of Imam alHusayn has been the most horrible calamity that befell the Shiite world. The Infallible Imams seized every single opportunity to mourn Imam alHusayn, in addition to the usual mourning ceremonies they held annually in Muharram. However, the tradition of mourning Imam alHusayn has practically gone astray to some extent throughout history in effect of which it has caused some people to regard it with some doubtif its course might have led to nowhere, all devoid of any religious reward and merit. The present descriptiveanalytical study attempts to portray the practices of the Infallible Imams, all based on authoritative sources. As such, commemoration of Imam alHusayn's martyrdom has historically received certain rituals, e.g., abstaining from wearing jewels during the griefstricken days, wearing in black, delivering religious lectures, reciting dirges (nawhas), shedding tears, and expressing condolences. Besides, it included inviting people to compose mournful poems, instructing people to go on pilgrimage to the tomb of Imam alHusayn, informing people of the aims of Imam alHusayn's movement, conveying to people the rewards of mourning Imam alHusayn, and tremendous effects of showing sympathy with Imam alHusayn, e.g., being resurrected together with Imam alHusayn, with no sign recorded in the mourner's profile
