If happiness is a good feature of society and development is considered as a gradual movement towards good society, happiness can be one of the goals of development policies. In the field of happiness economics, the focus of studies is on the identification and analysis of how different economic factors affect the happiness. But in studies done so far, the effect of the threshold of economic variables on happiness has not been compared with the panel threshold regression models. In the present study, the effect of eight variables including per capita income, income inequality, inflation, unemployment, economic freedom, household consumption expenditure, government expenditures and health expenditure on happiness using panel data for 100 countries in the period 2005 – 2016 in three scenarios by the panel thresholds regression method has been analyzed and evaluated. The results of the research are in accordance with previous studies show a positive relationship between happiness and per capita income, health, consumption, government expenditures and economic freedom, and a negative relationship between happiness and income inequality, inflation and unemployment. In each of the three scenarios, only a threshold value was detected. Household consumption and economic freedom have a positive effect on happiness, this effect increases with increasing per capita income (threshold variable). Per capita income has a positive effect on happiness, but as income inequality (threshold variable) increases, the effect of per capita income on happiness will decrease. It seems, therefore, that the formulation of appropriate policies to reduce income inequality can lead to greater happiness for society, which will result in increased productivity and economic growth.
