Aim: The purpose of the present study was to compare
cognitive emotion regulation strategies and psychological
distress in addicted and normal individuals. Method: This
descriptive study was a causal-comparative study. The
statistical population of this study was all those referring to
addiction treatment in Mashhad city who were referred to
addiction treatment clinic in winter 97. Sixty addicts and 60
normal individuals were selected by convenience sampling.
The DERS-Gertz and Romer 2004 Cognitive Emotion
Regulation Strategies Questionnaires, Depression, Anxiety,
and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and Lovebound 1995 were used
to measure the variables studied. Results: The results
showed that mental disorder in addicts is more than normal
people and cognitive emotion regulation strategies in addicts
are less than normal people. Conclusion: These findings
indicate that inability to cognitive regulation of emotions
and lack of control of psychological disorder in addicts are
two important components. Therefore, considering these two
components is essential for educational services, pathology
and counseling
