This study is termed 'grammatical contradictions' and not
'objections' or 'oppositions' or any other term as bin Hisham
himself has used the term 'contradictions'. The study is
both descriptive and analytical as these contradictions are
described first and then analyzed trying to show whether
bin Hisham followed the grammarians who preceded him
or he did that himself. Although bin Hisham had his own
grammatical school, he sometimes agreed with the Kufis
against Basris, and vice versa. He often agreed with the
viewpoints of Al-Mubarred without ascribing them to him.
The main point of the study is that bin Hisham has
been very accurate in following up the views of those
who have adopted the contradictions and his recognition
of invalidating their views and claims sometimes. He
has named the grammarians he has disagreed with,
contradicting and discussing them and then coming to
conclusions when necessary. He showed respect for the
opinions of others without finding fault with them or
reproaching them as it is clear, for example, in both Al-
Zajjaj and Al-Nahhas.
