Hong Kong is one of the four smallest dragons in Asia and one of the fastest growing countries in the world. It ranks 11th in terms of trade economy and second in the world among intermediary clauses. Information technology seems to have played a major role in Hong Kong's success. But in recent studies, there is no evidence that this role has been documented or researched. The present article examines the following aspects: 1) the use of information technology in Hong Kong; 2) tangible benefits of using information technology; 3) Problems in using information technology. The present study was conducted by sending a questionnaire to 438 companies, of which 116 were complete and useful. Findings show that all 116 companies use information technology in their accounting and finance. Information technology, although at a much more limited level, is also used in other areas such as human resources, production and sales. Most software is produced within organizations. Standardized word processor and spreadsheet packages are the most common software purchased. All companies recognize the usefulness of information technology in improving the efficiency and capability of their company. The main problems with the use of information technology are: 1) lack of financial resources, 2) lack of management support, and 3) end-user resistance.
