Ensuring the security of Internet of Things services and applications is a very important factor in building users' trust and using the Internet of Things platform. Data generated from various smart devices on the Internet of Things is one of the biggest concerns. To process such a large database repository of a variety of devices available on the Internet of Things, cloud computing has emerged as a key technology. Authentication and privacy of IoT-enabled devices play a critical role in the success of the integration of the Internet of Things and cloud computing technologies. The complexity and robustness of authentication protocols is still a major challenge. This article provides a lightweight authentication protocol for IoT-enabled devices using a three-tier architecture, including the Internet of Things device layer, the trust center, and cloud service providers. The trust value for each IoT device is computed using a fuzzy logic-based controller. To evaluate the performance of the protocol, the AVISPA tool is used and the MatLab tool is used to evaluate the cost and speed. The results show the superiority of the proposed protocol against other approaches in terms of speed and robustness.
