چکیده:
Demotivation, as the diminution or decreasing the degree of motivation and it drives from an
external trigger before it becomes an internalized process so motivation is assumed to exist before
undergoing subsequent decrease(Dörnyei, 2001), and demotivating factors have been defined and
studied as influential factors in the process of language learning. In line with other researches, this
study aimed at investigating the main demotivating factors among Iranian EFL at intermediate
learners’ speaking ability. To achieve this goal, a sample of 100 Iranian EFL learners at two private
language institutes studying English was recruited. To gather data, the researchersapplied a PET
test, and a demotivation questionnaire in English. Repeated Measure ANOVA revealed thatcourse
books, inadequate school facilities, experience of failure,non-communicative method, teacher’s
competence and teaching styles, characteristic of classes, and lack of interest among Iranian EFL
students as demotivating factors. The hope is that the findings of the current study help language
teachers promote motivating factors and avoid demotivating ones among the EFL learners
