Andrei Tarkovsky's cinema, with its deep moral implications, can be the basis for examining the crisis of spirituality in contemporary man. By explaining the path to human salvation, Tarkovsky fights against the imposed tyrannies of the human mind and soul. By understanding life in the heart of the totalitarian government of the Soviet Union, Tarkovsky, relying on his spiritual principles, finds human salvation in freedom and deliverance from mental, spiritual and physical captivity.
The purpose of this study is to answer the question of what is the meaning of salvation in Andrei Tarkovsky's cinema and how the cinematographer's spiritual concerns are influenced by social conditions and how do they affect it?
The method of this research is applied-theoretical in terms of purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of method. The information is also obtained in a library manner. The results show that Tarkovsky attributes human salvation to the pursuit of moral ways of life. According to Tarkovsky, man has only faith in his possession, and only faith can save man. A faith that, from Tarkovsky's point of view, goes beyond a purely religious point of view and takes a personal approach. By recalling emotions such as love, shame, desire and hope, Tarkovsky reminds him of the power of the oppressed man and asks him to act individually and to follow the moral ways of believing in the human race.
It is achieved, relying on the fulfillment of individual mission and self-sacrifice, to give meaning to his life and bring salvation to his society.
