A fish pond is a small ecosystem whose components include non-living factors (physico-chemical factors) and
living factors (producers, consumers and decomposers) and there is a complex ecological relationship between
them. In Iran, most of the water resources are devoted to breeding warm water fish, especially carp, and there is
a close relationship between warm water fish, plankton, and water quality. For this purpose, 11 pools around
Rasht city were selected and for phytoplankton sampling from each station, one liter of water without passing
through the zooplankton net, and for zooplankton sampling, 30 liters of water were filtered by a zooplankton net
(Apstein net) with a 30 micron mesh. They were fixed in 4% formalin and transferred to the laboratory for study.
In phytoplankton surveys, a total of 5 branches and 50 genera were identified. In this survey, Chlorophyta branch
had the largest population with an average abundance of 6056264 numbers per liter and 53.7% abundance. The
most abundant genera of this branch were Ankistrodesmus, Scenedesmus and Carteria. In the survey of
zooplankton in breeding ponds of Indian carp, 9 branches and 38 genera were identified, and during the study,
the highest diversity and abundance was related to rotifera branch with an average abundance of 1192 numbers
per liter and 61.8%. The most populated genera of this branch were Anuraeopsis, Brachoinus, Keratella.
Increasing the productivity of fish breeding ponds depends on knowing these factors and creating a balance
between them.
