Abstract:
Physical appearance as a form of capital has been the focus of sociologists in recent years. Because, "aesthetic capital", like other forms of capital, can be accumulated and used in social exchanges. However, previous research has less focused on social norms regarding "accumulation" and "utilisation" of "aesthetic capital", how the dimensions of this capital are judged for both sexes in monitoring norms. In this article, such gender norms, i.e. double normative criteria, were analyzed. Therefore, special statistical measures for both "accumulation" and "utilisation"dimensions of "aesthetic capital" were studied based on a parallel survey design using ordinal logistic regression (o-logit model). This study showed that there is a double standard based on specific norms regarding the "accumulation" and "utilisation" of "aesthetic capital". Also, according to the results of the research, it was found that the existence of double standard criteria depends on the "context" of the society. In such a way, these criteria in "accumulation of capital" mean more approval of women's behavior, while the double standard in " utilisation of capital" means more approval of men's behavior. As a result, "aesthetic capital" not as something that people "accumulate" and "utilisation", but as something that depends on "context", regulates gender norms
