Computer-cognitive games are new and exciting ways for kids and teens which in addition to fun aspects help them improve their cognitive functions and creativity. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of computer-cognitive games on executive functions and creativity of preschool children. This study is a quasi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test design with control group. The study sample consisted of 21 preschool children and boys who were selected by convenience sampling in a pre-school center in Bushehr and were matched on the basis of gender, age and intelligence in three groups of seven, namely two experimental and one control group. Before and after cognitive games, the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT) and simple Stroop software and The Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS) were performed on three groups. The experimental groups played cognitive games for the 16-hour sessions of Lomocyte and Tetris games, and the control group did not receive any games during this time. The results showed that performing cognitive computer games has a significant effect on creativity and working memory of preschool children, but there is no significant effect on selective attention and cognitive flexibility and planning and organizing.
The results of this research have important theoretical and applied implications regarding the role of computer cognitive games in promoting the cognitive function of preschool children.
