Introduction: The main axis of constructivism is that learners actively construct knowledge and meaning based on their previous experiences. The goal of constructive learning environments is to create rich experiences that motivate students to learn. The aim of this study was to investigate the application of teaching methods based on the constructivist approach in secondary school in Bostanabad schools located in East Azarbaijan province.Method: In this research, which has been done with a combined approach, the phenomenological method has been used in the qualitative part and the descriptive-survey method has been used in the quantitative part. The sample was selected in the qualitative section from among the teachers and in the quantitative section from among the students. Results: The components of constructivism obtained are: interaction, situational learning, facilitator teacher, active student, relative knowledge and qualitative evaluation. The findings of the qualitative section show that teachers, despite the tendency to use constructive teaching methods, still adhere to traditional methods. Although some components of constructivism are used by teachers, classes and teaching in them are generally traditional. From the point of view of secondary school teachers, students are also more inclined to the traditional method. The findings of the quantitative part of the research show different results from the qualitative part. Contrary to their teachers' beliefs, students expressed interest in using constructivist teaching methods in the classroom. Findings from the questionnaire show that from the students' point of view, teachers implement many components of constructivism in the classroom. All components had a mean above average (3) and all show constructivism between medium and high. These results show that from the students' point of view, their classrooms are associated with a constructivist teaching method and have constructive teachers. Of course, this view has been stronger among boys than girls.Discussion and Conclusion: Considering the findings and the importance and benefits of the constructivist approach in teaching and learning of students, it is suggested that in order to help standardize the level and ability of teachers to implement the constructivist approach, held in-service courses to familiarize and practice this approach for teachers.
