Abstract:
What is Obama Administration policy towards Iran? From
the author’s viewpoint, the Obama administration has adopted a
“mixed new beginning” approach in relations with Tehran. This
twofold policy can be traced when President Obama attempts to
adopt confidence-building measures and diplomatic maneuvers,
such as his message of greetings on the occasion of Iranian New
Year (Nowruz), on one hand, and his pressure over Iran on
nuclear program and human rights record on the other hand. In
order to find an answer to the above mentioned question, this
article benefits from the press released news on the U.S.-Iranian
relations during the last three years. One can argue that so far the
Obama Administration adopted the aforementioned approach in
order to achieve two significant goals: Firstly, to change Iran’s
behavior in the region, and secondly, to deal with Iran’s
controversial nuclear program. The author concludes that the
major options open to the Americans in the present and in the
near future may rest on the three probable scenarios: A strategy
of mutual interests, preserving the status quo, and a forward
military strategy.

From the author's viewpoint, thirty years after the dramatic reversal of relations between the United States and Iran, the Obama Administration seems initiating "a new beginning" approach in relations with Tehran, but at the same time, it appears that the past policies regarding Iran continue in the Administration.
