خلاصهای از تعالیم و خطوط اصلی تفکر عرفانی مولانا با رویکردی متعادل و دمواکراتیک در قصۀ «دژ هوشربا» به مخاطب عرضه شده است.در این روایت، عقاید مختلف به گونهای طرح شده تا مجالی برای رد یا قبول یا مشارکت در اندیشهها برای مخاطب مهیا گردد. مولانا میکوشد با انگیزۀ فردشوندگی، سالک را پس از رسیدن به «مرحلۀ آینه» و عبور از «ساحت خیالی» به «ساحت نمادین» برساند که تقرب به نفس وحدت یافته و نزدیکی به مرحلۀ فنا و بقا در حقیقت ازلی را در پی دارد. در این داستان ابتدا شاهزادگان با نهی و انذار پدر، احساس فقدان و جداشدگی از اصل حقیقت را تجربه میکنند. سپس سلوک را به شکل سفر و آرکیتایب جستوجو، آغاز مینمایند. پس از عبور از مرحلۀ آینه (کسب آگاهیهای ابتدایی) وارد ساحت خیالی(قلعه ذاتالصور) میشوند. با کمک ابژه-های دیگریِ کوچک (شیخ بصیر و شاه چین) سعی میکنند برای رسیدن به حقیقت از عالم خیالی به عالم نمادین بروند. در پایان، برادر کوچک یعنی عارف واصل با جستجوی دختر در درون خود به مقصد میرسد. در این داستان مولانا در نقشهای سالک، مرشد، پیر و یاریگر ظاهر میشود و با ناتمام گذاشتن داستان، به نوعی بر جاودانگی روح والای انسانی و تداوم عشق الهی تأکید کرده، سیر زندگانی خود و نهایت خاموشی و غوطه ور شدن در دریای حقیقت الهی را ترسیم میکند.این نوشتار در پی تفسیر و بیان سیر رشد روانی، تکامل سالک و نمود ضمیر ناخودآگاه در این قصه از دیدگاه ژان لاکان به روش تأویلی ـ تفسیری و تحلیل محتوای کیفی است.
