Abstract:
Simin Daneshvar narrates the life of an educated Khani and her family in her novel Suvashoon (1348), looking at the war between tribes and the central government in the early years of the 20s.This narrative, which is interwoven with issues such as the presence and interference of the British in the relationship between the government and the tribes, brings complications to accompany the manifestations of modernity.Yusuf, who agrees with the succession of the nomads and condemns the rebel khans, at the same time does not agree with the intervention of the foreign agent. In the end, he was killed for not selling his grain to the British. From now on, Zari, his wife, becomes a litigious and protesting character who has internalized Yusuf's problem in the fight against the British. Zari's protest is also a protest against the oppression and interference of the British and the government's surrender to them. Therefore, the female subject has been formed in Suvashoon due to the association with national ideals. In addition, this novel is the first novel written by women and the problematization of Zari's character is also tied to the issue of Sedentary lifestyle, nationalism and colonialism. In this article, the duality of dealing with modernity and nationalism due to the presence of foreign interference is considered to be the source of the problem of women (Zari).
