و أنا لا أکتب القصیدة إلا تجاوبا مع معاناتی، أما الشکل و الکلمات و الإیقاع و القافیة فقد کانت دوما بالنسبة إلی أدوات کنت مرغما علی تغییرها لتتلاءم بصورة أفضل مع معاناتی و معاناة الآخرین... فی بادئ الأمر، عند ما بادر البعض منا، نحن شعراء الیوم، إلی کتابة قصائد تنأی عن العروض و القافیة، أثارت ثلة من الأفاضل ــ ممن کانوا یتهیبون أی نوع من التجدید و یتعذر علیهم بالطبع القبول بهذا النسج من کتابة الشعر ــ هذا الموضوع بالذات باعتباره أعظم دلیل علی کوننا و کون إنجازنا هزأة. بمثل هذا التعبیر عن تحطیم أطر الوزن، لا یقر بأی خروج عن الوزن أو القانون، بل یعاد إلی الشعر وزنه و قانونه الحقیقیان؛ ذلک أنه إذا لم تنفصم الذرة لم یتضح المعنی الحقیقی لترکیبتها و حرکتها و دورانها و لا المفهوم المنظومی لها. و إذا اعتبرنا الشعب حیا، فکیف یمکننا تصدیق أن قدرته علی الفهم و ثقافته کانتا خلال عهد ما فی الذروة و لکنهما لم یبارحا مکانهما منذ ذلک العهد؟ إن الخطأ لدی من یحذون حذو الفطاحل المتقدمین فی اختیار اللغة، متباهین بأنه لا یمکن التمییز بین کلامهم و کلام سعدی و حافظ، یکمن فی عدم اعتبارهم لغة الیوم جدیرة بالاستخدام فی الشعر، غیر واعین أنهم بجحودهم للقابلیات الشعریة لهذه اللغة یتنکرون لحضورهم هم بالذات. أما العکس من هذا التصور فهو غیر صحیح، أی أن الشاعر إذا استخدم فی الغالب ضمیر المتکلم المفرد فإن ذلک لا یدل علی عدم اکتراثه للآخرین.
