Abstract:
among political scholars includes the concept of"lslamic Republic" and discussion of the meanings of republicanism and lslamism. The author seeks in this article to reply to the question that theoretically which relationship exists between Islamicity and republicanism in the Islamic Republic oflran's system. In other words, is the relationship between republicanism and Islamicity in Iran of a conflictual or compatible nature? To reply to that question, the author outlines initially general principles of republicanism and Islamic Republic and then discusses how the Islamic Republic took shape following the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Then the viewpoints of two groups of scholars maintaining contradiction or compatibility between republicanism and Islamicity are discussed, and arguments advanced by each of the two groups are presented separately.
