Machine summary:
This article does not aim to look upon globalization as a negative phenomenon, but to delineate realities resulting from it in the field of security to help policymakers of the Islamic Republic of Iran act more cautiously when planning on strategic, security and foreign policy issues.
Baldovine observesthe terminationof the Cold War led to the third wave of security: the first wave was Westphalian security (nation-state) from 1950 to 1980; the second wave was international security from 1980 to 1990; while the third wave has started since 1990 and is known as global security ,\13> This wave was a direct result of the collapse of a bipolar system and the establishmentof new order along with developmentsrelatedto revolution in communication and information technologies.
Therefore, Middle East including Iran is still stuck with the concept of national security and has been impressed by unipolar (hegemonic) ambitions of the United States for imposing globalization from above.
However, some also maintain that globalization will reduce individual and social securityand state that increased interventionin internal affairs of other countries, exacerbation of ethnic sentiments, spread of poverty, substitution of global values instead of ethnic and traditional ones, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, depletion of national and environmental resources, economic liberalization, reduced role of governments in maintaining security, terrorism and use of information technology by paramilitary and certain groups for immoral purposes wij.
