Cultural signs are abstract graphic forms: an accumulation of the rich culture of nations,
a reflection of the formal and conceptual resources of nations in a small format and a
reflection of ancient-model reserves of a nation. Archetypes are the main and enduring
model of the mind and the product of human experience during thousands of years. They
represent themselves in human manifestations such as visual cues. In this article, cultural
signs related to knowledge field including universities, publishing houses, and research
institutes (at least ten prominent international and national samples) are examined, by using
the mythological and archeological attitude. The purpose of this paper is understanding
the archeological insights that different civilizations have had it as the sense of knowledge,
and its re-crystallization can be seen in the simplified forms of the present signs. In order
to achieve a logical connection and a sound reasoning, more than a hundred international
and national knowledge-based signs were observed. Most of the signs have chosen a
direct language and are directly related to visual symbols such as books and the front
door of universities, most designers have used national symbols in designing the logo
of universities and have a direct understanding of its meaning. Some of the symbols
which have been analyzed in this article have used implicit and covert demonstrations in
archetypes. Most signs which imply the secondary concepts have been used in the same
way in different cultures: Archaeologies which are common in different cultures and have
mythological origins, and also the forms of trees, sun, fire (candle or torch) and water are
the symbols of knowledge in the global archetype. This article analyzes the meaning of
knowledge in universal archetype and introduces their reflections in introduced signs of
knowledge-based institutes by using a descriptive-analytical method.
