The story is that in India, they brought an elephant and put it in a dark house, and people who had
never seen an elephant before touched the elephant in the dark house, everyone created an image
of the elephant in their mind. For example, a person touching his trunk imagined the elephant as a
water chute. The one who touched the elephant's ears and made him look like a fan. The person
touching the elephant's feet visualized him as a solid pillar. Another person who put his hand on
the back of an elephant and imagined the elephant as a bed. If they lit a candle at home. The
difference in people's ideas disappeared. Sensual perception, like palm perception, is incomplete
and it is not possible to know everything with sense and reason. The allegory in question expresses
"the inability of human appearance senses to recognize the facts of things and affairs". . The origin
of this story is in Indian and Buddhist sources, in a collection called Odana, which included the
words and teachings of Buddha to his followers. Sana'i also mentioned this story in Hadiq al-
Haqiqah before Mawlavi. This article has stated with an analytical and descriptive method that the
translation of Professor Hejar is similar to Rumi's similes only in similes, but the form of the verses
and the introduction of the story are not like Molvi's verses and he has told the story in several
verses and They conclude and bring the message of the story in the last stanza, which is different
from the conclusion taken by Maulvi, in the style of a story within a story, the last 54 stanzas of
this story are dedicated to the story of Noah and Canaan at the time of the storm and with A
statement taken from the stories of the Qur'an tells the audience that real acquaintance is in spiritual
connection with truth and that kinship and father-child relationship do not lead to salvation. And
it makes the story longer and enters mystical topics. In his allegory, Rumi has likened Hazrat Haq
to an elephant and the darkness of the room to the material world in which people are covered in
veils and layers, and their intellect is a prisoner of the sense of touch, and the candle in this poem
is an allusion to discovery and certainty. . that whenever this light shines in the heart, it will reach
true knowledge and understanding, and the allegory of the elephant in the Masnava is the story of
superficial people who have lost God in prejudice and worldly material veils.
