Talib Ali Khan Lakhnavi, known by the pen name Aishi, is a
poet and author of the Indian subcontinent's revivalist style,
who has composed poetry in both Persian and Hindi
languages. The entirety of his divan has remained untouched
in the Persian language and contains 6,435 verses, including
odes, banquet masnavis, quatrains, and other literary forms.
Aishi, with 203 Persian ghazals in 1,593 verses and 133
ghazals in the light meters of Ramal and Hazaj, should have
been considered a revivalist Indian poet like Ghalib Dehlavi.
However, through meticulous research and extraction of
meters using a descriptive-analytical approach, we have
reached different conclusions. The 13th century is a period of
medium-light meters in the Persian ghazal form, but by
examining statistics and figures, we find Talib Ali Khan to be
different from other poets, a heavy-metered poet with themes
appropriate for soft and heavy meters, and occasionally with
the splendor and magnificence of Hafez and Saadi's ghazals in
lofty mystical meanings. His metrical variety includes 19
types, and his ghazal's metrical patterns do not even reach 10.
Although 84.36% of his ghazal's meters are composed in 7
short meters, he has very few exciting and stimulating meters
and no interest in alternating dual meters. Only two ghazals,
one with the meter "Mofta'elon Fa'elon" repeated twice and
the other with "Mofta'elon Mofa'elon" repeated twice, have a
gentle and flowing rhythm in his speech. In this article, after
analyzing the musical aspects of the radif and rhyme, the
common and less-used meters of Aishi's poetry are
introduced, and his position in the Persian ghazal style is
explained.
