Abstract:
Against harsh global reaction to Ahmadlnejad'f utopian statements, the main purpose of this article Is to argue that the The Islamic republic of Iran's politics Is Increasingly tending to become structural rather than ideological and personal. After a lengthy procedure to articulate Iran's grand strategy, In the latter part of Khataml's second-term presidency (2001-2005), Iran's 20-Year Perspective has been proposed as the Grand Strategy of the Islamic republic. Ultimately, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic republic has signed It as the mandatory "general policy of Iran." Due to the popular appeal of the "structure weak-theoretically strong" sector of society In terms of reformism and pragmatism, the Islamic republic Is engaged In the "real power-struggle" and tlerce competition between Its rival two factions: assertive radicals on one hand and reformists and pragmatists on the other. The former Is In favor of cultural regionalism and technological orlentallsm versus the accommodative strategy of reformists and pragmatists towards the highly developed countries of the West. As. a result of this structural differentiation, Iran's foreign policy Is Increasingly less Influenced by Ideological fervor and more by either ussertlve or proactive approach to national Interests
