چکیده:
Teaching translation is an academic discipline dedicated to the study and transmission of knowledge relating to fundamental principles, advanced techniques as well as the multiple aspects inherent to the practice of translation. This specialized branch of education aims to train students by providing them with the tools necessary to master not only the source and target languages, but also to understand the cultural, contextual, and stylistic nuances that influence the translation process. By exploring the various methods of textual analysis, highlighting the challenges related to interlingual communication, and encouraging critical reflection on the role of the translator in a globalized world, translation teaching proves to be a field complex and fascinating where translation theory, linguistic skills and metacognitive sensitivity combine.
Translation teaching methods play a crucial role in improving students' overall translation skills. This question raises a challenge worthy of attention: how can we optimize translation courses to guarantee significant progress and translation quality among Iranian students enrolled in a master's degree in French? To answer this question, our research is based on an analytical and descriptive approach based on action research.
As part of our study, we chose to explore the use of audiovisual resources as a pedagogical lever to enrich the translation teaching process. In this method, we deliberately work on the metacognitive strategies of the students: it involves previously viewing an audiovisual document linked to the theme of translation which would activate cognitive and linguistic sensitivity in the students who will then translate a text.
Our main objective is to evaluate the concrete impact of this method on the quality of the translations produced by our participants. The latter are specifically made up of nineteen master's students engaged in a course focused on translation and French literature at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, having carefully followed our educational program adapted to this specific objective.
The research results, obtained after careful data analysis using a Paired-Samples t-test and one-way ANCOVA, convincingly revealed that the specific method implemented had a positive impact on the overall improvement in the quality of translations produced by students. This finding highlights the crucial importance of choosing adequate teaching methods to promote the development of translational skills among Iranian students.
It is interesting to note that despite this beneficial effect observed overall, no statistically significant difference was detected when it comes to comparing the quality of translations produced by students specializing in literature with those focusing on translation. This lack of disparity can raise various questions regarding didactic approaches adapted to different fields of study and highlights the continued need to evaluate and refine pedagogical strategies to meet the specific needs of each type of learner.
